Vacuum infusion as a novel method to determine wood permeability

چکیده
This study aims to propose a novel method, vacuum infusion process, measure the longitudinal permeability of wood. The method uses bag sealed over fibrous material, with inlet and outlet. It can be performed on top any flat surface, its process is relatively swift. Six different woods (Pinus elliottii, Araucaria angustifolia, Ochroma pyramidale, Cedrela fissilis, Tectona grandis, Eucalyptus grandis) three fluids (water, soybean oil, furfuryl alcohol) were selected for study. After preliminary evaluations morphology, chemical characteristics, density, porosity, contact angle capillary pressure, two actual measurements. highest was obtained pyramidale wood, being 0.45–7.49 × 10–11 m2. wood 58–88% 18–62% more permeable than Pinus elliottii grandis woods, respectively. fluid found have some influence experiment therefore must carefully selected. difference in attributed morphological especially presence axial vessels, which are 60% larger compared while has no vessels. amount voids all nevertheless, similar, as well evaluated characteristics structural anatomical elements (tracheids and/or fibers). In all, determination apparent using practical good accuracy, yielding results similar those from other methods literature.

Evaluation of Axial Impregnation as an Alternative to Classical Wood Vacuum Pressure Impregnation Method
The evolution of laws on the use of biocide products has led to important changes in the field of wood preservation leading to an increasing interest for non “biocidal treatments” like thermal or chemical modifications. While thermal modifications become more and more common on industrial scale, development of chemical modifications progresses slowly. One reason for the challenges encountered i...
متن کاملA novel electrochemical method to determine α-amylase activity.
In this paper, we report a novel electrochemical method that can be developed as a biosensor for simple and direct determination of α-amylase activity. The method is based on the hydrolysis of maltopentaose, the substrate of the enzyme, which is immobilized on the surface of a gold electrode, and the induced charge changes of the substrate-modified electrode. Specifically, the substrate maltope...
متن کاملScaffold permeability as a means to determine fiber diameter and pore size of electrospun fibrinogen.
The purpose of this study was to construct a flowmeter that could accurately measure the hydraulic permeability of electrospun fibrinogen scaffolds, providing insight into the transport properties of electrospun scaffolds while making the measurement of their topographical features (fiber diameter and pore size) more accurate. Three different concentrations of fibrinogen were used (100, 120, an...
متن کاملA new method to determine a well-dispersed subsets of non-dominated vectors for MOMILP problem
Multi-objective optimization is the simultaneous consideration of two or more objective functions that are completely or partially inconflict with each other. The optimality of such optimizations is largely defined through the Pareto optimality. Multiple objective integer linear programs (MOILP) are special cases of multiple criteria decision making problems. Numerous algorithms have been desig...
متن کاملChlorophyll Fluorescence: A Novel Method to Screen for Herbicide Resistance
The susceptibility to Terbacil of six randomly selected strawberry cultivars (‘Aromas’, ‘Chambly’, ‘Harmonie’, ‘Kent’, ‘La Clé des Champs’ and ‘Seascape’) was analysed using chlorophyll florescence (CF) in comparison with visual observation, in an attempt to develop a method for use in a breeding programme to select herbicide-resistant strawberry lines. Terbacil was applied at one of five rates...
